Drying is the last and hardest step in processing timber, and the one that takes the most energy. The discovery behind Alent Dynamic was an accident. Eric Björkman had been chasing a better drying process for forty years when a rusty water container fell into a control system he had installed at a sawmill outside Luleå. The program started switching on and off in intervals. He assumed the timber was ruined. It was the best he had seen.

The patented interval drying works on the same principle. The timber is put under far less stress, dries faster and uses less electricity. Sawmills get fewer end cracks, less warping and less discolouration, which means less scrapped material and fewer shipments of timber the end customer would have thrown away anyway.

The method is established across every major European market, with customers in sixteen countries from Finland to Chile and Australia. The company is based in Luleå.

Alent Dynamic is a patented control technology for timber drying. Retrofit it onto an existing kiln and you get up to 60% less electricity, up to 10% less heat energy and up to 20% less drying time: at higher timber quality, with fewer cracks and warps.

The technology matches the drying curve to how water actually moves through wood, instead of forcing the wood to match the kiln. That single change makes sawmills more profitable and meaningfully cuts their footprint at the same time.

The company is now in every major European timber market (sales offices in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland and the Baltics) and works directly with researchers and operators to push the technology further.
